Her first sale!

Joanna is super excited to be a Daisy!

After her first Girl Scout meeting yesterday we stopped by CFA and saw a friend who used to work there. Our friend patiently listened to her talk about scouts and said she was interested in buying chocolates with carmel. So we made plans to stop by her work today with the order form (that gave our friend time to be prepared with cash).

It was great watching the 2 of them navigate the form and consider the options. There are lots of yummy-looking things in the $6 and $8 range!

So, she has her first order, and is ready to meet up with more friends who want chocolates or nuts. Just let me know and we’ll swing by with the form.

Orders can be done online, which is great for magazines, but not so great for the candy due to the shipping charges. If you’re local, we’ll definitely meet you so you can order in person and pay with cash or check and skip the extra shipping free 🙂

Finishing on Friday

These items are all “done”, but they’re not finished.

See all those strings? They all need woven into the work. That’s my least favorite part.

I’ve steadily been crocheting but not weaving in and ended up with this pile of things that are all almost finished.

Tonight I’m watching the World Series and working on finishing these things.

One is a gift to be given out tomorrow, I think I’ll work on that first 🙂

And, it’s far from finished, but we’ve made progress on our online store. You can check it out at https://squareup.com/store/made-by-miss-j

She can count to 15

This morning our girl woke me up by asking me to come see her 15 Beanie Boos. She had lined them up and counted them. She was very excited to tell me there are 15.
So, while it’s nice to see she can accurately count 15 items, it is also a bit embarrassing or overwhelming that she has so many! And, she would love to have more.

These are the one item she always asks for, it’s like she has a built-in sensor and knows where to find them in each shopping venue. She spies them at Hobby Lobby, the Science Museum gift shop, the grocery store, the gas station, airport gift shops, and more. These things are EVERYWHERE, just asking to be added to her collection.

Several months ago we had a proud moment when she was willing to give one away when we were gathering up items for kiddos living in a shelter. Her choice of one of these precious ones was a sweet act of caring for the unknown kiddo in a tough situation.

Heat and chocolate don’t really mix well

Tonight after J went to bed I opened up our fancy bag of chocolate popcorn for a fun snack while we watched a couple shows on Netflix. And, I was surprised.

Do you see all the melted chocolate on the bag? That’s supposed to be on the popcorn.

Yep, I ordered it to be shipped to Oklahoma in August, it should have crossed my mind that it may not make it to us in great shape. But, they sold it. What a reminder that the extra shipping charge and packaging that See’s adds for warm weather shipping is totally a good idea.

So, if you’re thinking of ordering something that could melt, you may wanna wait if it’s still summer, learn from my experience 🙂

Giving Amazon Prime a try…

Here’s a good one…the day our exchange students arrive the light for change filter in our fridge came on. It’s red and noticeable right by the water button.

I checked prices for a replacement at Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon. In case you haven’t had to shop for one of these recently they aren’t cheap! All 3 places have the same one, for the same price at Lowe’s and Home Depot, but $20 less at Amazon.

So, we’re jumping into Amazon Prime – free 2 day shipping all year along with music, movies, and whatever else we’ll find out about. I figure just getting new filters throughout the year will almost pay for the membership, along with free shipping for anything else we decide to get.

Have you used Prime in the past? If so, what was your experience?

Wishing I’d read some reviews first

I tried a new toilet cleaning product yesterday. It was a total fail for us! The 4-year-old kept telling me “the blue thing has a strong smell”. She was absolutely right. Such a strong smell it permeated the front half of the house and the hallway. Yuck!

Here is the product (available at Amazon, but I picked it up at Target):

With two extra people in the house for a month I thought a little extra help cleaning the toilet could go a long way toward making it a clean space for everyone. These seemed like a nice minimal effort way to add a bit of cleaning. Bummer that it didn’t work!

So, today after another complaint by my daughter and also kind of hating how my house smelled myself, I scraped it out of the toilet and thew it away, then took out the trash, burned some candles, cleaned the toilet again with our normal stuff, and am getting ready to bake some brownies, hoping the house will then smell like chocolate instead of yucky toilet cleaning gel.

Amidst the cleaning I took a quick peek at reviews and discovered many others had the same experience as me…the scent is just way too strong. Too bad there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way to return a partial box with an excuse of we just couldn’t stand it.

Hopefully you’ll learn from our experience and try something else, as this one really was a bad choice.

Walmart will deliver groceries to your car!

Walmart has a new service: Walmart Grocery. It’s awesome! For no additional cost you can order online and they’ll bring your groceries to your car. I used it twice in the first week it started here in Edmond.

I just signed in at walmart.com/grocery and found what I wanted. The one catch is that there is a minimum $30 order required. After filling my cart I selected a 2-hour time slot to pick up my stuff. They called me 15 minutes before it was ready and asked that I call back 10 minutes prior to arriving. The reserved parking for pick-up was easy to find.

The first time my order included some toiletries, cans, pasta, eggs, ground beef, and lettuce. When they brought it out to my car they showed me the ground beef, checked the eggs, and noticed a black spot on the lettuce so went back inside to get a better one. They loaded it into my trunk and gave a gift bag, smile, and thank you.

The second time the employee brought me a cold bottle of water in addition to the gift bag. It was great! She even told me to stay in the car while she loaded the trunk.

Though there are other places I’d rather shop this service is awesome for times that I don’t want to take a curious 4-year-old inside with me – like when it’s raining or really cold, or when the store is full of Christmas displays and toys catching her attention everywhere.
